We have been asked to pitch an idea for a music video based on the song 'Let's Dance to Joy Division' by The Wombats based on our interpretation to the lyrics. I believe i have come up with a very original and interesting idea which I could envisage being a real music video.
I wanted to use the idea of the band 'Joy Division' in a large sense and so i started to research music videos that they made. One I found was for there most successful song called 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' (seen below..)
After finding this I knew exactly what my pitch would be..and here it is...
As the beginning of The Wombats track start, the video will look the same as Joy Divisions, walking up a star case into the same room. The band will appear and will be playing the instruments to look the same as the original video. The camera would then go back down the stairs to find another door, leading to another room that once the doors are open we can see is filled with people, all dancing along to the track. This is then continuously cross-cut with the shots of the band until the end of the track. At which point the camera would zoom out to an old looking television set, and would pan around to see a girl sitting on an old-looking sofa wearing 80's style clothes watching MTV (which was inveted in the 80s) and she then switches the tele off and walks away.We would pressume she was watching the original Joy Division track.
